Changes to the Unified Handicapping System (Congu) are based on the expectation that every player will return a sufficient number of scores to provide reasonable evidence of playing ability. A recommendation is that members play a minimum of 6 qualifying competitions each year. For those that cannot achieve this Supplementary Scores have been introduced. This allows players who have not completed 6 qualifying rounds the previous year an alternative format in which to submit scores for handicap purposes.
The Competition Committee has reviewed the rules relating to entry into the Club Winter League and Summer Knockout competitions. They have decided that there will be no change; in other words members will still be required to have played in a MINIMUM of FOUR qualifying rounds during 2008 to enter the Winter League, Victory, Kelwick and Charnwood Cups. This will be reviewed again prior to the 2009 season if further changes are introduced by CONGU.
The current revisions have provided members additional opportunities to submit sufficient cards to meet the qualifying criteria. We now have 28 qualifying competition opportunities during the year.
The main rules relating to supplementary qualifying scores are as follows:
1. Supplementary Scores can not be submitted by Category 1 players.
2. Only players who have returned 6 or less qualifying scores in the previous year may return a supplementary card.
3. An acceptable supplementary score is any authenticated score over 18 holes under Competition Play Conditions over a Measured Course. The format may be stroke play or stableford.
4. Up to 10 supplementary scores can be submitted during the calendar year, but not more than 1 per week.
5. Players must signify their intention to return a card by entering the details in a book located in the Professional Shop prior to playing. Cards should be returned to the Professional or Secretary.
Note: Players who have recently been allocated an official handicap qualify immediately for the return of supplementary scores.
